- ItemBig Data: evaluating the nature of data in Indian corporate(IIM-Bangalore, 2013-12) Agrawal, Minakshi; Pendse, Pradeep; Dhameja, RiteshData-driven decision-making is now being recognized broadly, and there is growing enthusiasm for the notion of "Big Data." Decisions that previously were based on guess work can now be made based on data itself. The Indian economy produces a constant stream of data that is being monitored and analyzed. There has been a tremendous explosion of Information amongst the Indian enterprises over the last few years. Notably in Indian organizations (across verticals like BFSI, Media & Entertainment, Telecommunications, and Government) at present have more than 100TB data. The research paper aims to study the amount of data stored by Indian corporate today along with their characteristics such as Size, Type and the rate at which the data is received. The research also focuses on identifying scope for Usage of Big data Technologies in Data Management in Corporate in India.
- ItemDairy of an IT Project Leader: a case study on project management leadership(European Case Clearing House (ecch), 2009-01) Pendse, PradeepThis case is about the challenges faced in development and deployment of a large manufacture resource planning (MRP) II / enterprise solution for Major Insulators Ltd, a leading insulator manufacturing company in India. The case has been presented in the form of a diary of a project manager - wherein he narrates how the project unfolds on a week by week basis. Participants are able to find parallels to the situations described in the case in their own work area. After discussing issues and possible solutions / best practices, the case expects the participants to work out a fresh project plan, including a profit and loss account for the project. The purpose of the case is to sensitise / highlight to participants: (1) the issues faced in managing large IT deployments; (2) project management and leadership behaviours for the success of IT projects; (3) the business and monetary implications of project related decisions; and (4) the breadth and depth of thought required while planning a project. The case has been successfully used for training: (1) project leaders, project managers, transition managers; (2) business analysts and functional consultants; (3) senior developers and domain experts making a transition to the above roles; and (4) students of MBA, MCA, MSc / BSc (computer science / IT) etc. The case can be used in workshop mode for half-day (discussion only) to full-day (including new project plan preparation) under any of the following situations: (1) software development companies or end user IT departments; (2) companies at any level of maturity as per the capability maturity model framework; and (3) any large IT application in any domain.

- ItemHealth-e-Connection: for a healthier India(2016-02) Jatar, Amala; Pendse, PradeepThe world’s population is increasing at an alarming rate resulting in the migration of people to urban areas for employment. India, too, is facing a similar situation with almost 40% of the population expected to be living in the urban areas by the year 2031. This puts tremendous strain on the civic healthcare infrastructure causing rapid spread of diseases in urban areas along with increased chronic health conditions among the population of all age groups. This paper looks to offer solutions to some of the existing healthcare problems in India through the concept of Smart Cities.

- ItemPortal is Vital: making libraries relevant and responsive to changing user requirements(Management Libraries Network, 2012-10) Kunkur, Giridhar; Pendse, PradeepIt is evident that in this era of digital information environment, library users are becomeing highly tech-savvey and love to access the "most needed" information almost instantly without wasting too much of their time. It is a general experience across most of academic institutions where Wi-Fi is very Common, that there is a distinct shift in the Priorities of Gen-Y who are now connected with the world via Smartphone, pc - tablet, i-pad, laptop and the like. The ease of access to information on the Internet with these swanky gadgets, the footfalls in the libraries are gradually dipping. It is necessary for librarians to reach out and connect with the users rather than depending on them to come to the library. For this, the libraries need to become more relevent, appropriate and quick to respond to their needs. Well designed library portals certainly play a vital role in making librariaes move from their passive state to an activwe state and help in transforming them as vibrant places in terms of meeting information needs and developing loyal community of users.

- ItemSoftware Tool for Supporting Ethnographic Research in Design and Innovation Projects in Management Education(IEEE, 2010-07-01) Agrawal, Minakshi; Agarwal, Anuja; Krishnamoorthy, Aparna; Pendse, PradeepIncreasing interest in Design/Ethnographic research in various domains including management education creates opportunities and challenges. One of them is the qualitative data of various types such as observations on sticky notes, photos, observation diaries, video clips etc. Where the volume of such qualitative data is small a designer can use simple visual clustering techniques to discover insights. However for large design research projects it could become unmanageable to say the least. The question arises if a software tool could be created which could support this process of mining insights. This paper aims at introducing such a software tool for supporting design/ethnographic research in management education. Such a software was developed and deployed for capturing observations about the lifestyle of the people living in villages with a view to understand their energy needs. The software helped capture qualitative and quantitative data from nearly 80 field researchers engaged in this research. Encouraged by this success, the software is being enhanced to become a generic tool for design/ethnographic research. The paper describes the challenges in managing design/ethnographic research data using the energy project as a case in point and the utility of the software for that project as well as the visualization of a more generic solution for design/ethnographic research.
- ItemSurvey on Competencies of a Software Project Manager(Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, 2002-03) Pendse, PradeepThis paper is based on a large research project being undertaken to study the competencies required of Project Leaders/Managers in the Software and IT Industry. The larger research is an ongoing project which seeks to uncover the nuances of Human issues in Software Project Management and the required competencies under different situations such as traditional software development, differences in technical and business domains, implementation of ready products such ERP and CRM, Networking and IT infrastructure projects, In-house IT Project Management etc to name a few. The survey is at present limited to organisations in Mumbai but will extend across locations within India to begin with and across the globe in future. The paper relies on primary data collected through several focus group discussions held on this subject. The over 100 participants in this survey represent a wide cross-section of Project Managers and Project Leaders from various leading software, IT and user organizations in Mumbai. They represented such leading organizations as Patni, Mastek, Citicorp Group, Indusind Bank, Atos Origin, ICICI Infotech to name a few. However the information provided by them was in the form of their personal perceptions although derived from their experience in working with such organizations. This point is important since it only ensures that they were responding of their free will and to that extent making the survey more unbiased. It is equally necessary to mention that these do not represent the opinions of their organizations and a separate survey is being conducted to gather such information. This paper only reports part of the findings of this research. It focuses on the following aspects derived from the above survey: • Importance on Human skills and Competencies in Project Success • List of Competencies required for a Project Leader/Manager • Findings on Perceptions of Indian Managers/Leaders about how they measure against these competencies • Conclusions based on the above perceptual data.

- ItemTwariet(WeSchool, 2011-12) Pendse, Pradeep; Agarwal, Minakshi; Agrawal, AnujaThis case is based on a real life venture undertaken by the Center for Study of Social Change (CSSC) a registered Mumbai based NGO started by Dr Ramesh Potdar and a few other leading Doctors in Mumbai. CSSC planned to set up a special quick response medical support service within the slum areas from Bandra (East) through Dharawi and Kurla on the Central side and Santacruz on the Western side covering a very large population. CSSC already has a large building and a large open space and several clinics in slum areas supported by health-workers who go door to door and enroll slum dwellers in various initiatives of CSSC. Dr Potdar and his team realize that slum dwellers either ignore health issues or over react to a health conditions due to a lack of first level assessment and Triage. In case of genuine emergencies, these needy have no access to emergency services to detect, stabilize and quickly admit him//her to a decent hospital. For not so serious cases, the ability to treat the patient quickly and locally would take away the hassles and the costs of treatment at a larger hospital. Given the shortage of hospital beds, CSSC can also offer post-treatment care through its centers further reducing the burden on hospitals and the patients.
- ItemUse of Project Narratives as a Method for Studying Project Leadership – A Critique(The International Journal Research Publication's, 2014-11) Pendse, PradeepLeadership in the context of Projects has been a subject of research since the early 2000s. Most of these studies have either been based on in depth interviews or structured questionnaires or tested research instruments. Narratives which have been used in other fields such as Psychiatry and Health have however been rarely used in Project Management research. This paper which is based on the authors study of nearly 100+ Indian software export projects, is an attempt to discuss the utility of project narratives as a basis for study of Project Leadership behaviors and competencies.
