The world economy has transformed significantly since World War II. The opening of national borders has led to a remarkable expansion of international trade and has resulted in important efficiency gains in resource allocation. Barriers to trade have collapsed and this has emerged as a key driver of global economic growth. Technology and scientific progress have also fuelled the emergence of new paradigms for businesses. World over governments are consciously pursuing policies which enhance the competitiveness of the country in this global marketplace. It is believed that a more competitive economy will be the one which will grow faster in a medium to long-term perspective. India is one such nation which is in pursuit of competitiveness.
