This case is based on a real life venture undertaken by the Center for Study of Social Change (CSSC) a registered Mumbai based NGO started by Dr Ramesh Potdar and a few other leading Doctors in Mumbai. CSSC planned to set up a special quick response medical support service within the slum areas from Bandra (East) through Dharawi and Kurla on the Central side and Santacruz on the Western side covering a very large population. CSSC already has a large building and a large open space and several clinics in slum areas supported by health-workers who go door to door and enroll slum dwellers in various initiatives of CSSC. Dr Potdar and his team realize that slum dwellers either ignore health issues or over react to a health conditions due to a lack of first level assessment and Triage. In case of genuine emergencies, these needy have no access to emergency services to detect, stabilize and quickly admit him//her to a decent hospital. For not so serious cases, the ability to treat the patient quickly and locally would take away the hassles and the costs of treatment at a larger hospital. Given the shortage of hospital beds, CSSC can also offer post-treatment care through its centers further reducing the burden on hospitals and the patients.en_US
